Now that the first snow has fallen this year and the season is about to start. I would like to take this opportunity to talk about one of the resorts where I have most time in Slovenia, and that I particularly always enjoy, Rogla. This ski resort, nestled in the heart of Slovenia, offers a perfect blend of mellow slopes, forest off-piste action, stunning views, and a laid-back, relaxed feeling.

What I love about Rogla:
- Diverse Terrain: With 12 km of slopes available, Rogla is not the biggest, but it caters to all skill levels. There are gentle slopes for beginners and challenging black runs for experts. Although I must say that for those that look for very steep terrain, they won’t find so much here. I enjoy some off-piste forest snowboarding on powder days. I take care not to go too deep into the forest (except on this occasion 😅). I only recommend it for the most experienced riders.

- Modern Infrastructure: The 12 lifts (3 chairlifts and 6 drag lifts) guarantee transportation around the resort. There almost no waiting lines. One striking thing during my first visit to Rogla was the parking location. It is almost at the highest point in the resort. You don’t have to first take a cable car to the top of the mountain. You are already at the top of the mountain!

- Stunning Scenery: The winter sports area is situated between the elevations of 1,050 and 1,517 m. You won’t find any high altitude, steep Alps scenery, like in other higher positioned ski resorts, but the views of the Pohorje Hills covered with forests is simply breathtaking.

- Cozy Après-Ski: There a couple of bars and restaurants next to the slopes, but nothing too crazy. If you are looking for a party atmosphere, better look somewhere else.
- Family-Friendly: Because of the gentle slopes, Rogla is a good destination to go with kids. It’s nice and quiet, and also offers a variety of activities for families, like sledding.

A few tips for your visit:
- Check the snow report: Rogla’s snowmaking system ensures good conditions throughout the season. However, it’s always a good idea to check the latest snow report.
- Book accommodation in advance: Especially during peak season, it’s advisable to book accommodation in advance.
- Try local cuisine: Don’t miss the opportunity to savor delicious Slovenian dishes, such as jota (a hearty bean soup). It’s a perfect dish to warm yourself up after hitting the slopes.
Whether you’re a seasoned skier or a beginner, Rogla is a fantastic destination for a winter getaway.
